The Independent Labour Party

Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar and The representatives of Independent Labor Party.
In August 1936, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar established the Independent Labor Party. The main objective of the party was the welfare of the laborers. So it was deemed as a labor organization. In order to bring the depressed classes with the purview of the labor class, they proposed that they be referred to as the labor class instead of the Depressed Class.

The Independent Labor Party gave priority to providing technical education, protection of rights to the depressed class and providing them all the facilities accorded to the labor class. They also stressed on providing the landless with the land and housing using leftover money from religious organizations for educational purpose, making available medical facilities, libraries, assembly halls etc in rural areas.
